6.1 STUDY AIM
The primary aim of this qualitative phenomenological study is to explore and describe the lived experience of patients using medical cannabis for the physical and psychological effects of cancer. The data gathered will be presented to the oncology associations in South Africa.
6.2 STUDY OBJECTIVES
To achieve the aim, the following objectives will be pursued:
• To describe the lived experiences of patients using medical cannabis for the effects of their cancers, via semi-structured interviews, field notes and audio recording.
• To explore the use of medical cannabis through thematic analysis of the gathered data.
• To analyze, compile and present the data to oncology associations in South Africa.
7. METHODOLOGY
7.2 RESEARCH DESIGN
Qualitative research is generally used to answer questions about complex phenomenon.
7.3 RESEARCH SETTING
The study will be conducted in the Oncology department of a state hospital in Gauteng, South Africa. Permission will be requested from the head of the department prior to the commencement of the study. The setting is appropriate as patients with a cancer diagnosis are normally referred to the Oncology department to be managed. Thus, the participants for the study will be gathered from the mentioned Oncology department.
