A classic novel that tells the story of a complicated love that develops between what was thought to be two people with contrasting personalities. Elizabeth Bennet is the second oldest of five sisters and is a very intelligent and beautiful woman. She misjudges a man based upon rumor and appearance, but finds out she is horribly wrong. The novel explains how difficult is can be to understand someone after settling upon assumptions and listening to the people around you say different ideas about them. Elizabeth had to see past the assumptions surrounding Darcy and see him without the influence of others.
Social class was a major influence during the 1800s, when this story takes place. The Bennet family was very poor compared to Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy’s. This is where some of the issues in the story come from. The Bennet sisters want to be with upper class men even though their social order stops them from being a desirable pair. The poor end of the relationship would benefit greatly from a marriage with a rich man.
