Abstract
In this paper, the writer selected three industries which are cosmetics and makeup, automotive manufacturing, and apparel retail industry. Moreover, the author is going to focus on three companies from these industries to analyze their business strategies. The companies are Estee Lauder, Ford Motor, and Gap Inc. First, the author will provide some information about Estee Lauder, Ford Motor, and Gap Inc. After that she will describe the market of these companies. Third, the writer will analyze their competitive strategy. At last, she attempted to give some recommendations about their business strategy.

Overview of the Estee Lauder
In 1946, Joseph and Estee Lauder established Estee Lauder Companies Inc in New York City. Since then the company is still run by the Lauder family. Estee Lauder produces skin care products, hair care goods, fragrances, and makeup products. By end of 2016, the company has 46,000 employees around the world. By June 2017, the company had a total of 1,930 stores which are operated under many organizations. Other than Estee lauder brand, the company is also home to other major industry brands, for example, Aveda, MAC Cosmetics, and Clinique (IBIS World, 2018). The company retails its merchandises through limited distribution channels to retain the high-quality reputation the company’s brand has cultivated. Moreover, the company sells its products at authorized online retailer, and specialty shops, such as perfume boutiques, on-board cruise shops and duty-free shops. Also, Estee Lauder offers its products at specialty salons and high-end spas where consumers can buy its professional products. According to its most recent financial statement, Estee Lauder Company’s major customer is the classy department store Macy’s, which accounts for 8.0% of the Estee Lauder’s annual revenue (IBIS World, 2018).
Financial performance of the Estee Lauder
Estee Lauder’s products are luxurious and expensive. The skin care product category of Estee Lauder offers products, such as many skin cares needs for women and men. In fiscal year 2017, the skin care production generated revenue of $4,527 million which accounted for 38.3% of the organization’s total revenue. For makeup production, the company generated revenue of $5,054 million, that accounted for 42.7% of its total revenue by fiscal year 2017. For fragrance production, the company generated $1,637 million which is about 13.8% of its total revenue by fiscal year 2017. For hair care category, the company generated $539 million which accounted for 4.6% of its total revenue by 2017. The rest 0.6% of total revenue were from other category which sells ancillary products and services (Mint Global, 2018). The fiscal year ending June 2017, the company’s reported revenues were of $11,824 million which is 5% higher than fiscal 2016 (Mint Global, 2018).

Overview of the Ford Motor
Ford Motor company is one of the biggest automakers in the United States, therefore, the world’s fifth largest automaker. The company was founded in 1903 by Henry Ford. The organization is based in Dearborn, MI, a suburb of Detroit, and manufactures automobiles under the Ford and Lincoln brands. Throughout its subsidiaries, the company provides vehicle financing services and operates 62 plants worldwide. Ford Motor operates through four categories which are automotive, central treasury operations, Ford smart mobility LLC, and financial services. Geographically, the company classifies its operations into five segments that are the US, Germany, the UK, Canada, and all others (Mint Global, 2018).
Financial performance of the Ford Motor
By fiscal year ending 2017, the company’s reported revenues were $156,776 million which is 3.3% higher than fiscal year ending 2016. Furthermore, its net income was $7,602 million in fiscal year 2017 that is 65.4% higher than its previous year (Mint Global, 2018).
