Land use pattern of Cheloor lake discloses that highest portion of the land is covered by residential area. Dry cultivation can be seen on the areas adjacent to the lake. The catchment area of the Lake is subjected to environmental degradation, mainly due to the growth of residential area near the lake. Encroachment into the lake creating various environmental pressures on the landscape and habitat transformation and reduction in biodiversity.
The lake is slowly degrading due to pollution and formation of artificial land in the lake . This is mainly due to siltation and settled deposit. Compared to Sasthamcotta lake the lake degradation is low.
