Social media has become an important mode of communication in today’s generation. It is a platform that allows its users to communicate with people and share their ideas across the globe. It has helped bring the world closer. But every coin has two sides. Social media sites and apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Whatsapp, etc. makes communication with others a smooth sail. According to Forbes, there are around 1 billion social media accounts all over the world. Social media is very common in today’s modern world and is also considered to be one of humans greatest achievement.
It is quite evident that social media is having some form of impact on the way we speak a language. Languages like English are evolving at a rapid rate due to the increase in use of social media. We witness various neologisms pertaining to their languages. LOL and TTYL would be two such examples for English neologisms.
This paper proposes to explore the researches that have identified changes in the the way social media users speak English.
