STATEMENT OF PURPOSE FOR MBA GLOBAL BUSINESSStudying for an MBA requires a certain determination and strength of character. In recent years, the business world has become rapidly integrated across once restricting borders, and anyone with high goals in the business world must have an international perspective and be aware of the realities of different international arenas. In this age of information, economic globalization is subjecting the entire world to an irresistible, all-encompassing and profound transformation. Today’s business organizations demand multi-skilled individuals with all-round qualifications in business, finance, banking, management, marketing to keep pace with the competition and tackle the economic crisis; and they require top management with premier knowledge in all these key areas. To be able to adapt and soar in contemporary organizations, I have decided to prepare myself with further expertise and new branches of knowledge that can enhance and develop my skills further with advanced competency and professionalism. The Masters in Global Business program offered by CASS Europe can enhance and tune my current qualification and give me the completeness of knowledge and skills; and help me get to the pinnacle of a successful career.
I have always personally believed in the importance of setting a goal, focusing on it, and achieving it. Then, the cycle continues, I set another goal and so on. With the years of work experience that I have, I have learned some basic knowledge and skills in the professional field. For such reason, I am interested in taking the next step towards achieving my goal by pursuing a Masters in Global Business.
Through my professional and academic experiences, I have learned that in order to increase myself further as an asset to the industry of Information Technology, I have to pursue a course work in the field of business management as well, examining the principles of Operations Management, Strategic Management, Marketing Management, Accounting and Finance, Organizational Behavior and HRM. These and more will prepare me for the world of international business and operating in the global markets. The course offers applied knowledge alongside practical management skills development and provides the knowledge of professional practice required at management level within the global business and management sector. The course will help me understand how to conduct business internationally. It will crucially help me understand the particular challenges faced in the 21st century where business is being increasingly shaped by the information and communication technology (ICT) revolution, globalization of markets, and enhanced competition. I will be very happy to learn new things and also grow as well along the way.
Earlier, I had studied Computer Science and graduated successfully with a second class honors. I was very passionate about technology and wanted to pursue a career in the technology domain. Because of this reason, I joined Mahindra Comviva as an associate Technical Engineer after university. As a Computer Scientist, I enjoyed writing codes. I created various tools that were later used across Comviva to help improve the efficiency of the processes and employees. After spending about seventeen months in the organization, I moved on to IBM where I had found a newer and more advanced role as a Performance Marketing Professional. The job spanned across the areas of Application Development, Operations Management and IT service Management. The technical Specialists role requires having expertise in translating IT requirements in the design, development, and assembly of components to create custom information systems. Typical examples of the deliverables are functional and technical designs, models, components, code, unit tests, and documentation.
The operations management role included revenue; profit performance; development and management of business processes including quality assurance, business controls and procedures; client satisfaction deployment and ratings; and plan administration.
The service management role supervises, coordinates and maintains on a daily basis, the levels of service agreed with and expected by the client while keeping a constant focus on improving the performance of the services provided.
With IBM being a global company, I have gotten opportunities to work with teams in different countries in the area of Service delivery coordination involving managing communication, incidents, problems and projects between teams across different countries. During this time, I have gotten a glimpse of how to manage projects, services and people. After managing teams that spanned across continents and countries, I knew that this was the most difficult task that I had ever taken up in my professional career – but, I tend to do my best when I am extremely challenged. Working with people from different cultures and getting the job done gave me a feeling of accomplishment that I liked.
After more than two years in this company, I am confident working in a fast-paced international business environment. However, during these years I have encountered numerous obstacles and unforeseen challenges. Therefore, after careful consideration, I decided that further study in an MBA program would be not only useful, but also essential in developing my career potential and providing me with greater opportunities for future success.
As Program participants are offered the opportunity of specializing in one of the following areas: Global Business, Global Finance, Marketing in the Digital Age, Human Resources Management, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Supply Chain ; Operations Management, ICT Management, I am looking to actually specialize in the area of ICT Management since I am already in the ICT space and this specialization is what made this program so desirable for me.
With such interesting course such as Information Systems ; Business Intelligence in the concentration curriculum, I intend to conduct a research project in the area of Big Data and Business Analytics. As everything becomes increasingly interconnected, the way we conduct business, work and play is radically changing. More than anything else, and as societies emerge into the era of data responsibility, Ghana needs to become an economy driven by data and the discipline of data analytics. While Ghana joined the league of oil producing countries several years ago, data has also been described by technology pundits as the “new oil”, an amazing source of wealth for nations. This new wealth, like crude oil, needs to be used responsibly and for the common good.
Currently, most of the data we generate is neither mined nor harvested for value creation or decision-making. Gartner, the research firm, estimates that the world’s information will grow by 800 percent over next five to seven years, with 80 percent of that data being unstructured — including health records, audio and video files, sensor readings, e-mail messages, web pages and more.
According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), revenues for big data and analytics in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region totaled $1.98 billion in 2016, was expected to reach $2.2 billion by end of 2017 and is forecast to reach approximately $3.20 billion in 2020, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.0% over the 2016-20 period.
As Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UAE jointly account for about 58% of this big data analytics investment, technology analysts observe that companies and public-sector institutions in West Africa’s leading economies, namely, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal and Nigeria, seem to be in the forefront of this regional digital transformation drive, as exemplified by their progressive policies and fast-growing financial services sector. With this research topic, the goal in the end is to have acquired knowledge on key processes for analyzing data and managing analytics projects, become more aware of what business problems can be addressed with data analytics and be able to better identify new business applications of data analytics etc. After my master’s degree, I hope to become better equipped to engage in my country’s nation building efforts in promoting digital transformation.
As Lawrence Stern said “The desire of knowledge, like the thirst of riches, increases ever with the acquisition of it”. The MBA Global Business program will further equip me with intellectual depth and breadth along with greater practical knowledge to satisfy this interest as well as prepare me adequately for my career.
After finishing the MBA program, I expect to have acquired substantial management and business administration expertise. Running a successful company requires constantly improving quality on both the individual and business levels.
Also, I plan to remain in my Company and apply what I would have learnt in your program to the benefit of the company. Within two years after graduating, I expect to have developed a successful career that I can be proud of. I eventually plan to work as an IT Manager in the near future, a role which demands excellent organizational, planning, and communication skills. If I am to achieve this goal, I must continue to improve my knowledge and experience in analysis, teamwork, communication, and organization. I feel strongly that the MBA program offered by your institution is ideal for developing these skills and preparing me for a managerial role in a multinational company in the future and further. I believe that my past shows a steady yet rapid progression through the tech world, and I am eager to continue that progression by enrolling in your MBA program. Thank you for your time and consideration.
